From the French Alps to the Atlantic Ocean
We met in the French Alps during the winter season of 2007/2008. A Frenchman on skis and a Dutch girl on a snowboard, but both working in tourism.
In 2010, we decided to buy and renovate a house in Brittany – Finistère. After 1.5 years of renovations and two winter seasons in the French Alps, we opened Brittany’s first surf house in 2012. A chambre d’hotes for (adult) surfers from beginners to advanced. For nine years, we enjoyed welcoming guests there. Many new friendships have been formed in our home. We have seen children who returned every year with their parents grow up, young people become parents, and parents become grandparents.
When Covid hit in 2020, we decided to sell everything, buy a camper van and travel through Europe with our son.
A new adventure in the French forests
We found a new home in Haute-Vienne in the southern centre of France, 15 minutes above Limoges.
In 2025, we renovated our gîte Vacances au Lac there. A large house practically on the shores of Lake Saint-Pardoux. A lake with (sports) activities for all ages. The house, centrally located in France, surrounded by vast meadows and dense forests, between two mountain ranges and next to the lake, makes it the ideal place for family holidays and for sporty nature lovers.
After losing a father-in-law and mother-in-law and raising a teenager, we have come to appreciate family time more and more. Combined with our own love of sport and nature, this led us to create Vacances au Lac.
